Better Than Ezra at Guild Theatre was a step back in time to the music I grew up listening to with more covers by other bands than I’d imagine someone with their music book would do. But it all worked brilliantly, actually. They were engaging, funny, witty and charming like an old band of friends would be. Now, do we believe that the bass player, Tom Drummond, ran off for three weeks with Selma Hayek after meeting her for their video Rosalia? I’m going to go with it because he was quite proud of himself upon Kevin Griffin telling the story as he damn well should be!
Opening band Cool Water Canyon is local from Menlo Park and longtime mates and they’re side gigs are basically a variety of doctors. Yes, medical professionals. They were a great opener as a transition to Better Than Ezra. They’ll actually be headlining at Guild Theatre later this year.
