The Kronos Quartet, comprised of David Harrington (violin), John Sherba (violin), Hank Dutt (viola), and Paul Wiancko (cello), is celebrating its 50th anniversary of pushing the boundaries of what a string quartet can achieve with their Kronos Five Decades tour.
To kick off the tour, they presented a free concert at the Bandshell in Golden Gate Park. During this performance, they showcased a diverse selection of pieces from their extensive repertoire, spanning from artists like George Gershwin, Sigur Rós, Bob Dylan, John Oswald, and others.
Notably, the concert featured two compositions from their “50 for the Future” project: “YanYanKliYan Senamido” by Angélique Kidjo and “Two Chinese Paintings” by Wu Man. An intriguing aspect of these pieces is that the audience is encouraged to visit the designated website at a later time, where they can download the music and score. This allows them to engage with the music and play along if they wish.
