Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew : Remain in Light
As part of the SF Live music series in collaboration with Noise Pop, the SF Parks Alliance, and local venues, Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew performed ‘Remain in Light’ at China Basin Park. The supporting venue, the Great American Music Hall, was recognized by the city of San Francisco as the longest-running independent venue in the city. August 17th, 2024, was officially proclaimed as GAMH Day in San Francisco.
Jerry Harrison, Talking Heads keyboardist, guitarist, and founding member, along with guitar virtuoso Adrian Belew (best known for his work with King Crimson), join forces to re-create the Talking Heads tour for the 1980 release of Remain in Light. Although Harrison is the only former band member from that period, Belew appeared on the album and tour as a guest guitarist. The set opened with “Psycho Killer”, immediately getting the crowd on their feet, moving and singing along. The set continued with “Crosseyed and Painless” and other tracks from Remain in Light, mixed with some earlier work and one post-Remain in Light piece, “Slippery People,” from the 1983 album Speaking in Tongues. The set also featured Jerry Harrison’s song “Rev It Up” and “Thela Hun Ginjeet” (an anagram of “Heat in the jungle”) by King Crimson. The show closed with “Drugs” and “The Great Curve” for the encore.
Filling the afternoon with music was opening performances by Chaki and abracadabra.
