mehro, pronounced “marrow,” and King Isis played at Cafe Du Nord, Wednesday night. Though familiar with both artist’s music, this is the first time I’ve seen them play live and photograph them.
Starting the show was King Isis, born and raised in Oakland, CA. King Isis learned to play the piano on her great-grandmother’s piano and after many years of formal music training, she began pursuing an alternative music sound. She is currently promoting her latest single “Monki”. King Isis kicked off the night off with an acoustic set of her songs. Her delivery was a sweet and melodic performance that wet the audience’s palette for the main act mehro.
mehro did not fail to deliver. mehro likes engaging with their audience and spoke to the audience frequently. They stated their shows are not a gathering of strangers but family and asked the audience to say hello to three concert-goers next to them, which we gladly did. Many of mehro’s songs have a soft and gentle sound about them and their lyrics show a maturity beyond their years. mehro performed a number of songs from a soon-to-be-release album which delighted the audience. Overall, a great show and can’t wait to see mehro the next time they come to San Francisco.
