Three people are outside Peri’s Tavern debating how to describe El Radio Fantistique’s sound. I go in and a guy is telling his girlfriend, ‘it’s like if Salvador Dali was having a birthday party, El Radio Fantastique would be the band,’ something he’s picked up from the group’s website.
But I don’t know if I could imagine El Radio Fantastique playing Salvador Dali’s birthday party. I mean, a gig’s a gig and it probably pays well but I think Salvador Dali used dadaism for commercial self-promotion and this band wears their unconventionality like a veil. Spend too much time thinking about it, though, and you’ll miss a band that comes complete with hooky indypop songs and loyal fans that travel.
If this Point Reyes Station band is new to you, start with their COVID-era single, “Hollywood Girl,” and let us know what you think.
