Eugene Hütz IS Gypsy Punk – period, end of story. As the lead singer and spiritual god of Gogol Bordello – a band that has bandmates from every corner of the globe – he is able to craft elements of Romani style music with a dash of punk (in sound and spirit), and adds some modern dub sounds to make a new puree of pure energy. That energy was on full display at The Warfield on Thursday, November 10th. Eugene came out, slammed a bottle of wine on one of the stage monitors, and then delivered the ball of fire that is Gogol Bordello.
Opening for the ball of fire was New Jersey’s own “Crazy & The Brains” – a perfect compliment to the upcoming raw energy, with fun and introspective songs like their hit “I Don’t Deliver Pizza Anymore” from their EP “Where the Juice Drips.”
