Stern Grove Festival is an adored, free live music concert tucked away in a grove of trees in San Francisco. Last Sunday’s collaboration of Jazz Funk band Lettuce and The SF Symphony brought sophisticated funk to an eclectic mix of music fans, dressed up in party hats, sequins, tie dye, and colored shades. It was a true celebration of summer and the best example of how music has the power to unite people of all ages. Sunday’s setlist had a thematic vibe including movie soundtrack snippets from Jaws, Psycho and several others from the symphony alone, followed by Lettuce covering Tears For Fears’ “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”, a common addition to their sets. The myriad of instruments on stage added a depth of sound to an experience that can only be described as epic and the joyous energy all around made for a perfect day outdoors.
