Sudan Archives with opening acts Kossisko and Lalin St. Juste marks the first of three special shows at SF Parks. Presented by SF Live, Noise Pop, the SF Parks Alliance and local venues. Rickshaw Stop. joins in to present us with this show.
Performing solo with her violin and a small keyboard, Sudan Archives (AKA Brittney Parks) kept the audience enthralled with her vibrant, eclectic mix of beats and strings. The show drew heavily from her most recent album, Natural Brown Prom Queen, opening with “Milk Me” and including the album’s singles “Home Maker,” “OMG BRITT,” “NBPQ (Topless),” and “Selfish Soul.” She also drew from earlier work, such as “Not for Sale” from her 2018 EP and “Limitless” from the Athena album. A self-taught violinist influenced by African, electronic, and traditional music, she performed a traditional Irish jig mid-way through the set. She closed the show with a new piece titled “BPM.”
The show opened with a performance by Lalin St. Juste, a Haitian-American singer/songwriter accompanied by a keyboardist. Following her, Kossisko from Berkeley, CA, got the crowd moving with their energetic funk/R&B sound.
