Two Friends Bring the Heat to MGM Music Hall at Fenway

Two Friends came to Boston on Wednesday, February 5th as part of Heatwave: The Tour. The American DJ/producer duo is made up of Eli Sones and Matthew Halper, and gained popularity for their hour-long “Big Bootie” mixes. The setlist blended everything fans love about their style: seamless mashups, nostalgia-fueled throwbacks, and heavy-hitting drops that kept the crowd on its toes. Their signature remixes of classics like Mr. Brightside and I Miss You had the entire venue singing in unison, while their originals, including More Than Yesterday and Wish You Were Here, brought the emotion and energy levels through the roof.

The production was just as impressive as the music. A stunning light show, high-energy visuals, pyro, and bursts of CO2 cannons turned the MGM Music Hall into a festival-like atmosphere. Whether you were on the floor or up in the balcony, the experience was immersive and electric. Plus, it wouldn’t be a Two Friends show without an incredible sax performance by the man himself – Casey Fitzpatrick. Casey’s solos remain one of my personal favorite moments of a Two Friends show.

While Two Friends still brought their signature energy that no doubt gave every fan a night to remember, this year’s show felt slightly underwhelming compared to their previous appearance in Boston in May 2024. However, this was nothing to do with Two Friends’ performance. I think this was primarily because it was a Wednesday show on a frigid night vs. 2024’s Friday night show in the middle of summer when young students/adults are more likely available and willing to have a late night.

Overall, it was an incredible night filled with excitement and love. I had never been to a show where I saw so many venue employees singing along and having the time of their lives. The Heatwave Tour continues with the next stops in Austin, San Diego, and San Francisco.
