Magdelana Bay Embark On Their ‘Imaginal Mystery Tour’ in SF
Indie-electro-”pop” provacatuers, Magdalena Bay, prove the growing hype is legit as they kicked off their Imaginal Mystery Tour last week in San Francisco. The Fillmore was bursting with energy as the sold-out crowd anticipated hearing and seeing Imaginal Disk live for the first time.
The duo didn’t disappoint as they performed the album in full and in order, occasionally sprinkling in past favorites into the 90 minute set. The banter was sparse as singer, Mica Tenenbaum, bound back and forth on stage but her vocals were on point the whole night. The rest of the band tucked away a bit on to the side perfectly punctuating each high and nicely riding the groove.
The stage was sparsely decorated with the exception a gorgeously painted backdrop and magical mystical mirror that displayed trippy graphics and images befitting Mag Bay’s Y2K, DIY aesthetics. The lighting was moody with great use of shadows and darkness to nicely set the tone.
Magdelena Bay dropped one of the most ambitious and sprawling albums of the year filled with genre-mixing bangers and they backed it up with the live show. You’ll no doubt be kicking yourself if you don’t catch them on this current run. They continue touring across the US through the month before circling back to the Los Angeles to wrap up the US leg and heading out abroad in November.
