Mo Lowda & The Humble headlined at The Independent Thursday night along with Illiterate Light. Mo Lowda & the Humble hails from Philadelphia and formed in 2013. The band consists of founding members Jordan Caiola, Shane Woods, along with Jeff Lucci, and Kirby Sybert. They are known for their progressive song writing and energetic live performances,
The band is currently touring the US promoting their self-titled four LP. Their musical style is reminiscent of bands like Kings of Leon, Airborne Toxic Event, and Incubus, but their song structure and composition go so much deeper. Their music is smoldering and emotive, gentle and driving.
lliterate Light is an American alternative rock duo that formed in Harrisonburg, Virginia in 2015. The band is comprised of vocalist, guitarist and synth bassist Jeff Gorman and drummer vocalist Jake Cochran. One of the unique features of this band is Cochran plays a standing drum kit while Gorman plays a Moog Synthesizer with his feet while singing, playing guitar.
It’s hard to put lliterate Light in any one category of music because their musical sensibilities incorporate a wide range of musical elements including Americana, Grunge, Rock, Folk and Psychedelia.
They put on an intense, loud and high-energy performance. For a two piece band, they can really fill a room with their sound. One funny and clever moment in the show was when drummer Jake Cochran dedicated a song to a member in the audience. He stated the song was originally written for his wife and asked person to think of his wife while performing the song.
