American singer-songwriter Victoria Canal, who headlined at Cafe Du Nord Thursday night, is on the road promoting her latest album ‘Slowly it Dawns. Victoria’s grandmother introduced her to music at an early age. She took classical lessons in both piano and voice and began songwriting at the age of 11. In April 2016, Victoria self-released her debut EP, ‘Into the Pull’ and in 2023 Victoria received the prestigious Rising Star award followed by Best Song Musically and Lyrically for her cinematic opus ‘Black Swan’ in 2024. Within that time, she also opened for Hozier on tour and performed her own run of shows across the US and Europe. Her bumper year of success culminated with an unforgettable appearance on stage with Coldplay at Glastonbury 2024.
Victoria’s music, as well as her performance, is warm, personal, and welcoming. I loved how she engaged with the audience, speaking about her song’s origins and meaning. Victoria’s music has great pop sensibilities combined with deeply introspective lyrics, creating piano confessionals. Though I was not familiar with Victoria Canal or her music before the show, I now consider myself a true fan of her music and look forward to seeing her performance the next time she’s in town.

Opening up for Victoria Canal was Jackson Lundy. Jackson Lundy is an LA-based singer, songwriter and guitarist from New York. Jackson first came to people’s attention with his first release, ‘Calypso’ in 2017, which has surpassed 5 million streams on Spotify. At the top of 2024, he inked a deal with Nettwerk Music Group and currently is promoting his debut album ‘Peachy Keen’. His music incorporates flashes of pop, R&B, soul, rock and folk. Jackson gave a warm and heartfelt performance that was a perfect lead-up to Victoria Canal.
